Title:Re-creating GP dictionary files
Description:Sigh...SP 3 and Payroll Tax Update 4 for Versions 9 and 10 are brutal on the reports dictionaries. We go the extra mile to re-create the dictionary files for custom reports.

  1. Use Customization Maintenance to create a reports package for each unique product.
  2. Delete ALL copies of any custom dictionary from the local computer and the shared directory (having insured you have redundant backups). This means delete ALL copies located anywhere on the computer.
  3. Remove any copies or backups of code and old installations.
  4. Re-import the product package files one at time.
  5. If any report raises an error, go back to step 1 and start over, omitting that report from the product export. Export that report to its own package.
  6. Re-check security access to the modified reports.
  7. On a single workstation, path to a local copy of the reports dictionary for the rogue report. Work with it there until you can import and export it without error. That likely means you start all over again.
  8. Once you've got the rogue report repaired, then import it into the shared product dictionary
  9. Re-path your single workstation back to the shared dictionaries if you desire. However, we always keep one workstation pathed local to work with reports.
